Callaway Golf Company is an American sport based in Carlsbad, California, specializes in golf. They produce a wide range of equipment golf, including woods, irons, wedges, putters and golf balls, and also a licensed Callaway apparel, footwear, watches and accessories.
Callaway Golf also products under the Odyssey putter brand, acquired in 1997 and Top-Flite Strata golf brands and Ben Hogan took root bankruptcy of the former golf division Spalding in 2003.
Callaway Golf Company was founded by the former president of Burlington Textile Industries, Ely, R. Callaway, Callaway Jr. was raised in LaGrange, Ga., and graduated from Emory University. Callaway became very successful in the textile and loved much golf. In games, Callaway would use clubs, Hickory Sticks. The clubs have been built Hickory trees with a steel core. At that time, Hickory Sticks was owned by Richard Parente and Dick De La Cruz. As Hickory Sticks started running out of funds, investors seeking to help the company and moved Callaway. At that time, had just sold his vineyards for a gain of $ 9 million. Then, in 1982, bought half of Hickory Sticks, the Company changed its name to Callaway Hickory Stick USA. Callaway Golf Ball Company engineers, recruited by Du Pont and Boeing, used aerodynamic computer programs (first used by Boeing and General Electric) to evaluate over 300 models dimple and more than 1,000 variations of ball cores, boundary layers, and cover materials to create the new Rule 35 ball. Callaway engineers designed only two models of rule 35 balls choose to develop a show "complete" ball instead of different balls developed for spin, control, distance and durability. Ely Callaway explained the objectives of product development side of the business: "We've combined performance advantages of a ball so players no longer need to sacrifice control for distance, feel, or durability. Each Rule 35 ball contains a unique combination of distance, control, spin, feel and durability characteristics. This eliminates confusion and guesswork to try identify the golf ball is best for each player. [6]
In 1997, Odyssey Sports was acquired more and more online Putter Callaway [1]. This led to the release of the line Odyssey White Hot putter in 2000.
Ely Callaway resigned in 1996, increased side Donald H. Dye to take over as CEO and President, Callaway, but remain part of the company in an advocacy role.
